AI and Home Assistant
Smarter security and energy management through AI-powered automation
Smart Security
The goal is to use Home Assistant with Frigate and Google's Gemma 3 model to build a smarter front-door security system — one that goes beyond facial recognition. Facial recognition alone has limits: a person leaving home rarely turns to face the camera, so a face match isn't always possible.
Context fills the gap. Knowing that the person leaving has two dogs with them, or that the person entering set a package down by the door, tells most of the story. Visual details like an all-brown outfit or an Amazon delivery jacket can make the difference between an alert worth sending and one that isn't.
Smart Energy
The same idea extends to energy management. By connecting the thermostat, Powerwall, and Tesla to one another, AI can make smart decisions automatically — charge the car when the Powerwall is full, pre-cool the house when power is available, and back off when it isn't.
The goal is a home that manages its own energy without any manual input.
I'll still have to plug in the car — but hopefully AI handles the heavy lifting from there.
